Dr Jason J. Gu

 

Jason Gu received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (2001) from University of Alberta and is Professor and Director of the Robotics Laboratory at Dalhousie University. He published over 250 Journal, book chapters and conference papers in biomedical engineering, robotics, systems and control. He was editor-in-chief of International Journal of Automation and Logistics (2012) and editor of Journal of Control and Intelligent Systems (2007).

He was associate editor for many IEEE periodicals, Program/General Chair for over a dozen IEEE conferences and was the IEEE Canada Atlantic Section (CAS) Vice Chair and Chair. He is currently the IEEE Canada Conference Editorial Board Chair and Awards Committee Vice Chair.

Jason received the Outstanding IEEE Student Branch Counselor  Award (2004), the IEEE CAS Murugan Memorial Award (2014), and the IEEE J. J. Eastern Canada Merit Service Award (2016). He is a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada and Canadian Academy of Engineering.

Dr David Zhizhang Chen

 

Zhizhang (David) Chen(S’92–M’92–SM’96)received the Ph.D. degree from the University of Ottawa, Ottawa, ON, Canada, in 1992.From January to August of 1993, he was a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department, McGill University, Montreal, QC,Canada. In 1993, he joined Dalhousie University,Halifax, NS, Canada, where he is currently a Full Professor and Killam Chair in wireless technology.

Prof David Barclay


He was a Deep Ocean Exploration Institute Post-doctoral Scholar and an Office of Naval Research Postdoctoral Fellow in ocean acoustics at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, as well as a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. He is currently an Assistant Professor and the Canada Re-search Chair in the Ocean Technology Systems, Department of Oceanography,Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS, Canada.Mr. Barclay is a member of the Acoustical Society of America and an Associate Editor in acoustical oceanography for the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America-Express Letters

Prof Rickey Dubay

He is a Professor and Professional Engineer in Mechanical Engineering atthe University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, NB, Canada. He teaches intelligent control and system identification for advanced manufacturing and robotic ssystems in an established research facility at UNB using open architecture industrial based equipment. He guides the active dock controller design for the docking project.Dr. Dubay is an Associate Editor of the ISA Transactions Journal of Automation, and has over 20 years experience designing advanced controllers, process modelling, developing machine learning methodologies, and working within dustry

Dr Mae Seto

 

Mae L. Seto(M’96–SM’10) received the B.A.Sc. de-gree in engineering physics—electrical and the Ph.D.degree in mechanical engineering from the Univer-sity of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada, in1987 and 1996, respectively.She is a Senior Defence Scientist at Defence R&DCanada, Dartmouth, NS, Canada and Leader of theMine and Harbour Defence Group. She is also an Ad-junct Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Com-puter Science at Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS,Canada and the University of New Brunswick, Fred-ericton, NB, Canada. Her researchinterests include intelligent autonomy for marine autonomous vehicles and sys-tems, underwater vehicle and tow body dynamics, multiagent systems, and un-derwater acoustics.

Trung Dung Ngo(M’07) received the B.Sc. degreein electronics and telecommunication from VietnamNational University, Hanoi, Vietnam, in 2000, theM.Sc. degree in computer systems engineering witha specialization in robotics from the Universityof Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark, in 2004,and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and electronicengineering with a specialization in robotics fromAalborg University, Aalborg, Denmark, in 2008. Kamal El-Sankary(M’07) received the B.Eng.degree from Lebanese University, Beirut, Lebanon,in 1997, the M.A.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Quebec, Montreal, QC,Canada, in 2002, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Ecole Polytechnique, University of Montreal, Montreal, in 2006.He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Dalhousie University,Halifax, NS, Canada, in 2006, where he is currently an Associate Professor.His current research interests include integrated RF, analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits and systems design, and signal processing in nano scale CMOS technologies.

Dr Len Zedel

 

Len Zedel received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in physics from the University of Victoria, Victoria,BC, Canada, in 1982 and 1985, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in physical oceanography from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC,Canada, in 1991.He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography,Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John’s,NL, Canada. His research interests are in ocean acoustics, ocean ambient sound,fisheries sonar, and suspended sediment dynamics.Dr. Zedel is a member of the American Geophysical Union

Heather Peng

 

I received my B.Sc. (1990) and M.A.Sc. (1993) in naval architecture from Dalian University of Technology, China and Ph.D. (2001) in naval architecture/marine hydrodynamics from Dalhousie University. I worked as a senior hydro dynamicist with Martec Limited in Halifax from 2000 to 2004 and with Oceanic Consulting Corporation in St. John’s from 2005 to 2008. I joined Memorial University as an assistant professor in 2008 and was promoted to associate professor in 2014.
